A Tidal Wave Of Marks

Just how bad have the strong mark and Germany's high wages been for German industry? Bad enough to spark a massive surge in direct foreign investment. Measured in marks, cross-border investment is running at double last year's pace, and in dollars, economist Joseph P. Quinlan of Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. says this year's total will hit a record $37 billion (chart).
