The Bad News For Jobs Is In The Goods Sector

If you want to know what's happening in the economy right now, take a look at the split between goods and services in the September employment report. Jobs in the private service sector increased by a healthy 169,000. But goods-producing industries--mining, construction, and manufacturing--lopped off 18,000 jobs. Manufacturers alone cut their payrolls by 32,000.
