Investment Figures Of The Week

COMMENTARY
Tech stocks went on a roller-coaster ride. Novell Inc.'s announcement that it
wouldn't meet fourth-quarter earnings estimates helped spark a sell-off that
sent the NASDAQ Composite Index down 2.7% on Oct. 9. The NASDAQ and the Pacific
High Tech Index regained some lost ground later in the week as investors bought
on the dip. Bonds barely budged, with the yield on the 30-year Treasury staying
at 6.43%. Among mutual funds, the Warburg Pincus Advisor Japan OTC Fund, with
its big weightings in tech and retail stocks, became the four-week leader in
      total return.
