Identity Crisis In An Andalusian Village

An awful lot of homes are for sale in Gaucn. Wander the corkscrew lanes of this mountain town in Andalusia, and beside the spilling bougainvillea, you'll see plenty of bilingual signs reading "se vende--for sale," most through an agency called White Villages. Peek through windows, and you'll find that some of the houses are whitewashed walls around ruins, but others are spanking new renovations. Signs of a booming economy? Not quite. Prices are indeed high--so high that hardly anyone from Gaucn can afford to buy. These houses are for sale to foreigners.
