The Nfl Ropes In A Maverick Cowboy

YOU COULD SEE THIS LAWSUIT coming from a Texas mile away. All summer long, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been raising hackles within the National Football League's cozy inner circle by signing exclusive sponsorships with such non-NFL partners as Dr Pepper, PepsiCo, and Nike. On Sept. 18, the league drew its line in the turf, slapping Jones with a federal suit seeking more than $300 million in damages. The suit seeks a court order to bar Jones from striking any more renegade deals, which the NFL says violates revenue-sharing rules. Jones insists the pacts violate nothing because they are with Texas Stadium, home of the Cowboys, not with the team itself.
