`Guts' And `Passion' In A Cfo

AS WAL-MART STORES NEARS a staggering $100 billion in sales, it's looking beyond Bentonville, Ark., for top talent. The newest recruit: Ben Franklin Retail Stores President John Menzer, who will join the world's biggest retailer as chief financial officer. With Menzer, 44, Wal-Mart gets "a CFO that really has the guts of a retailer and a real passion for the business," says consultant Burt Flickinger III. Menzer streamlined Ben Franklin's operations, automated warehouses, and focused on craft superstores.
