Any college-bound computer shopper would be hard-pressed to find one better suited to dorm life than Apple Computer Inc.'s new Performa 5200 series. The compact PCs cram all of the innards into a unit barely bigger than a normal 15-inch monitor. Standard features include a 75-megahertz PowerPC processor, 8 megabytes of memory, an 800-megabyte hard drive, and a CD-ROM. Under a special Apple promotion, college computer stores are offering the 5200 for as little as $1,750. An adapter allowing direct connection to campus networks costs $100.
