Korea: The Perils And The Promise

Your article "Korea" (Cover Story, July 31) spends little time considering the reality of the relationship between North and South Korea and downplays the enormous financial and social costs South Korea will incur with reunification. The belief in a peaceful solution to reunification is not held by most analysts and military officers. The specter of a bloody war and nearly 50 years of an uneasy and often violent cease-fire have not reduced the likelihood of military confrontation.
