Investment Figures Of The Week

COMMENTARY
The dollar took center stage, rocketing to a six-month high against the yen and
the German mark. The greenback lost some altitude, however, when an expected
cut in German money market rates failed to materialize. The stock market also
had a bumpy ride, dipping on fears that corporate profits were in for a fall,
then recovering as rallies in Microsoft Corp. and Walt Disney Co. stock sparked
a comeback. A surge in tech stocks helped the NASDAQ reach a record high, but
the broader Dow Jones industrial average is still 100 points below its high.
