CompuServe Inc. is ending one of its more annoying practices: a surcharge on mail sent to subscribers from the Internet. Customers can also choose a name instead of such cryptic addresses as firstname.lastname@example.org for Internet correspondence. Prices are down, too, bringing them closer to competitors'. The $9.95 monthly fee now includes five hours of service, with additional hours at $2.95. The change will cut fees for most, but subscribers who use a lot of "basic" services, including stock quotes, may face higher charges.
