The dietary supplement industry is launching an energetic campaign in Congress for more leeway to advertise health benefits. Last fall, it won legislation allowing some vitamin health claims approved by the Food & Drug Administration. Now, with anti-reg Republicans ruling Congress, the industry is pushing for a bill that lets them make claims without a prior O.K. from the FDA, which would police forfalse statements.
