A Bargain Compared With Fighting A War

Providing tax incentives to encourage the American oil industry ("The budget: How to whack $10 billion," News: Analysis & Commentary, July 3) is far cheaper than spending American lives and dollars in a Persian Gulf War so that we can continue to run high trade deficits by filling Arab sheiks' coffers with American dollars to purchase their mil for import.
