Ticketmaster Breathes Easier
TICKETMASTER IS FINALLY off the hook. The Justice Dept.'s antitrust division announced on July 5 that it was closing its year-old inquiry into allegations of anticompetitive practices at the company. The high-profile investigation had focused on whether Ticketmaster's stranglehold on choice U.S. concert venues and promoters was illegally driving up ticket prices and driving out the competition. Justice says it will continue monitoring competition in the ticketing industry, and Ticketmaster still faces numerous private antitrust lawsuits.
