The Best B School For Gays: HarvardBy
HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL IS at the top of one list--as the most gay-friendly of the leading MBA schools. That's something, given its slide lately in the B-school ratings game. In 1994's BUSINESS WEEK poll, Harvard fell two places to No.5, its lowest ranking ever.
The gay study, the first of its kind, ranks and grades the 22 best B-schools on eight criteria, such as: Do they have written nondiscrimination policies explicitly mentioning sexual orientation? The study is authored by Jason Lorber, an MBA student at Stanford University, which funded the six-month research effort.
While Stanford and Harvard both get As, Harvard ranks slightly ahead. Purdue's Krannert School is the only top business school to flunk. Reason: It lacks, among other things, domestic-partner benefits for students and faculty members. Dean Dennis Weidenaar says that doesn't mean the school is antigay: "We don't discriminate against anybody."
