Investment Figures Of The Week

COMMENTARY

U.S. stocks continue to rise and records continue to fall. On May 3, the Dow
industrials jumped 44 points to close at a record 4373. The broader Standard &
Poor's 500-stock index looked sharp, too, reaching the 520 level. What's making
the market go is a potent mix of higher-than-expected earnings and falling
interest rates. The latest economic indicators continue to point toward a
slowing economy and a tepid inflation outlook--conditions that should keep
      interest rates in check.
