The Fcc Auction Can Proceed
TELEPHONE ELECTRONICS IS backing down. On Apr. 18, the rural phone company withdrew a suit that had blocked the Federal Communications Commission's auction of wireless phone licenses. TEC had challenged rules that kept it out of the next round of bidding, reserved for small business, minorities, and women. But now TEC is getting what it really wanted: a deal with a group that includes AirTouch, U S West, Bell Atlantic, and Nynex will allow it to build PCS systems where it already provides local service.
