With their favored candidate--Dan Quayle--sitting out the 1996 race, Christian conservative activists are tapping other GOP Presidential hopefuls to promote their cause. Right-wing commentator Patrick J. Buchanan has signed up Christian Coalition field director Guy Rodgers as campaign manager. Senator Phil Gramm tapped fund-raiser Bob Heckman to mobilize the religious right. And Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole hired Steve Scheffler, a former aide to televangelist Pat Robertson, to offset fears he's too moderate.
