Capital Spending Plans

The Commerce Dept.'s summer survey of capital budgets will probably show that businesses still intend to increase their spending on new plants and equipment by about 8.3% for 1994. Most of the increase, however, likely took place in the first half of this year, with outlays projected to rise only slightly in the last two quarters. Capital spending advanced 7.1% in 1993.
