Monitoring The Rain Forest Isn't Enough

Regarding "It's Raytheon vs. Thomson" (Top of the News, Aug. 1): This monitoring of the rain forest is the most important project in the world--whoever executes it. The rain forest is our (terrestrial) lung, our climate producer, our water conservation basin. [But] if we monitor it without controlling it, by the end of the project there will be nothing left to monitor.

I do see optimistic future signs in the fact that two defense giants are fighting for an ecoproject. It would be a great idea to share the task and shorten the project's lead time so we get a better chance to control earth's future.
