Mesa's Ornstein Flies The Coop

Jonathan Ornstein, the 36-year-old dealmaker who helped build Mesa Airlines into one of the country's most successful regional airlines, is moving on to head Continental Airlines' commuter carrier, Continental Express. After a string of successful acquisitions, Ornstein seemed to lose his touch in recent months: Three deals, including a potential acquisition of Continental Express, unraveled. And disappointing earnings have more than halved Mesa's share price since March. Ornstein's job won't be any easier at Continental Express: The carrier lost $70 million last year.
