Everyone will be watching on Friday the 13th to see if the CPI report once again spooks the bond market. The MMS median forecast is that consumer prices rose 0.3% in April, the same increase as in March. Excluding food and energy, the core rate of inflation probably increased 0.3% last month as well, the same as in March. However, the forecast range is quite narrow, with all the economists projecting a rise between 0.2% and 0.4% for the total CPI and the core rate. So far in 1994, inflation is rising at an 2.5% annual pace.
