Legendary conglomerateur Harold Geneen, 84, is still dealmaking after all these years. It's a habit he picked up during his 18-year stint as chief executive of ITT, where he bought, merged, and acquired 350 companies until his 1977 departure. He won't comment on current CEO Rand Araskog's policy to take apart what he created. But the workaholic Geneen, who puts in 10-hour days at his office in New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, is busy in his new role as chairman of a public corporation yet again.
