To Publish Or Perish As One

These guys basically started the $2 billion desktop-publishing industry. Now, Adobe Systems and Aldus are merging, in a stock deal worth over $500 million. Both companies have struggled recently: Aldus is just now emerging from a severe slump, and Adobe's Acrobat program, designed to transmit complicated documents over networks, has been a slow starter. Not to worry, says Adobe President Charles Geschke: New products are coming soon, as is new video technology. Together, he says, "We want to create the technology that enables useful and practical information to get on that highway." That's the Info Superhighway, of course.
