Investment Figures Of The Week
The big action this week was in the bond market. Inflation fears and Whitewater worries sent the yield on the 30-year U.S. Treasury bond to nearly 7% on Mar. 10. But good back-to-back reports on inflation at the wholesale and consumer levels calmed the markets and bonds staged a nifty rally on Mar. 16. U.S. stocks remained little changed for the week despite some major merger news. But Japanese stocks logged a hefty 4.2% gain as its dicey trade relations with the U.S. seemed to improve.
