Turning Up The Gas At Burger KingBy
Hurricane Andrew nearly destroyed Burger King Corp.'s headquarters in Miami last summer. At the Sept. 30 dedication of the rebuilt Home of the Whopper, CEO James B. Adamson was busy twirling a star-shaped sheriff's badge in front of his new boss, Grand Metropolitan PLC CEO-designate George J. Bull. Inscribed on the badge: "Cut the bull. What's the discount?" It was a pun on Bull's name, of course. But Adamson joked that the badge, which had been given to him by Burger King co-founder James W. McLamore, was a marketing slogan for the Nineties.
