An Airline That May Not Fly

Booked on American Airlines for Thanksgiving vacation? Flight attendants at American are threatening to strike before Nov. 22, disrupting holiday service. This comes after the airline said it would impose its own contract on the work force, a deal the company says will reduce staffing requirements but deliver raises averaging 35% over four years. Meanwhile, unions at United Airlines have till Nov. 13 to complete details of their $4 billion proposal to buy as much as 60% of the carrier. But sources close to the talks say they are hitting snags. One positive note: TWA finally emerged from bankruptcy on Nov. 3, with at least $200 million in cash.
