Lee Kopp considers himself an astute investor in telecommunications, and with over 40% of his clients' $534 million in telecom stocks, he had better be. But when American Telephone & Telegraph offered to scoop up every share of McCaw Cellular Communications for $12.6 billion in Ma Bell stock, the portfolios run by Kopp Investment Advisors had not a share. "We missed it," he admits. "We never had enough information on the company, never had enough conviction to buy McCaw stock."
