Investment Figures Of The Week

Stocks staged a spirited rally in response to declining interest rates. Both
small and big-cap stocks showed muscle, and even the slower moving Dow
industrials rose a neat 50 points for the week. The rate on 30-year Treasuries
hit an all-time low, and short rates also tumbled. That sent investors
stampeding into finance stocks--especially the banks, which only a few weeks
ago were deemed by market gurus as past their prime. Foreign stocks, however,
      hardly budged.
