Savvy financier Henry Kravis and partners at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts have been frantic in trying to lift the soggy stock of RJR Nabisco Holdings. After all, KKR invested $3.1 billion of its own money in the giant food and tobacco company, which it acquired in 1989 for $26 billion. KKR controls 47% of RJR's voting stock.
