More Shuffling At Hughes

Hughes Aircraft delivered its latest blow to the California economy on Mar. 29, announcing it will consolidate a missile-design and management facility with 2,000 jobs in Tucson. Employees will be moved from four existing Southern California sites, bringing to more than 5,000 the total number of jobs Hughes is transferring out of the area as the company scrambles to cut costs and diversify into commercial markets. "This is another wake-up call" for the Golden State, says Hughes CEO Michael Armstrong.
