Until Japan Plays Fair, Protect Detroit

Your commentary "Why Detroit doesn't need the protection it wants" (Top of the News, Feb. 8) chooses to misinterpret the position of those it calls protectionists. Those who call for retaliation against the Japanese wish for such measures, not permanently, but only until the Japanese have opened up their markets. There can't be closed markets on the Japanese side and open markets on ours.
