Israeli Home Shopping May Soon Include A Driver's License, Too

Israelis who have been frustrated by that country's notorious government bureaucracy may soon see relief. Israel's phone company, Bezeq Telecommunications Co., has joined with Elbit Computers Ltd., one of the country's largest high-tech firms, to offer a computerized information-and-shopping network for Israel's homes. The network would allow Israelis to renew passports or driver's licenses and obtain other government services--tasks that can entail a long wait at a government office--from their living rooms. It would also provide home-shopping, banking, and access to information services and news on cultural events.
