Things Start To Look Up For New College Grads

One group whose job prospects are clearly improving is new college graduates. According to a recent survey of 316 members of the College Placement Council, employers plan to hire 7.7% more graduates in 1993 than in 1992-a year that showed no increase in hiring at all. By industry sectors, services expect to boost hiring by 12.5%, compared with a 5.4% increase projected by manufacturers. Although average starting salaries for graduates with bachelor's degrees will be up only about 3%, or no faster than inflation, graduates with master's degrees in business can look forward to a healthy 6.1% increase.
