The Fed

Federal Reserve officials expect to get along fine with the new White House. But they're worried about some of Bill Clinton's congressional allies, especially House Banking Committee Chairman Henry B. Gonzalez. The Texas Democrat has stepped up his anti-Fed rhetoric. He also has introduced a bill ordering videotaping of the central bank's policymaking meetings and requiring that the President, rather than the Fed system, appoint the heads of regional Fed banks.
