When it comes to the environment, a chasm divides President Bush and Democratic challenger Bill Clinton. To hear the President tell it, the Arkansas governor and his Vice-Presidential nominee, Senator Albert Gore Jr. (D-Tenn.), champion environmental policies that would drive thousands out of work. At a recent campaign stop at a Washington State lumber mill, Bush advocated softening environmental laws and declared: "It is time we worried not only about endangered species, but about endangered jobs."
