Alarm systems can be a hassle. More often than not, tripped alarms are actually false reports--a cat walking across a hidden sensor, for example. That's why many police departments now require security companies to verify the cause of the alarm before they respond, and that usually means an expensive video surveillance system. London-based Automated Security Holdings PLC on Oct. 1 was scheduled to introduce in the U.S. a setup that it claims is significantly cheaper than current $6,000-and-up systems.
