Desertions by black, Jewish, and pro-choice voters are hurting the reelection chances of Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.). A Millersville University/Penn State poll shows Democrat Lynn Yeakel ahead 43%-37%. Despite Specter's strong pro-choice record, Yeakel leads 52%-28% among voters who think the Supreme Court went too far in restricting abortion. Specter also alienated women voters during Clarence Thomas' confirmation hearings.
