Most computer video monitors generate strong magnetic fields that, depending on which health researcher you believe, may or may not have harmful health effects. Retrofitting existing monitors with shielding to contain emissions is impractical. The alternative, replacing all monitors with shielded ones, would cost businesses billions of dollars.
