A Bank Merger That Wasn't Meant To Be
Two of New England's biggest banks are finally producing some good news. On Jan. 15, Hartford-based Shawmut National called off a proposed merger with archrival Bank of Boston. After a year of stop-and-go negotiations, the banks say they can survive on their own.
