Northwest Air Gets A Christmas Package

Chalk one up for Northwest Airlines Chairman Al Checchi. On Dec. 16, Minnesota gave legislative approval to an $835 million financial package for the heavily leveraged airline. Most of the money is for new aircraft maintenance bases for Northwest in Minnesota. NWA will also receive a $320 million loan as part of the package. Sources close to Northwest say Checchi, who has long coveted Continental Airlines, is looking at buying all or parts of the bankrupt carrier.
