`...And A Tummy Tuck In A Pear Tree'
Remember All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth? Time for an update. Dr. Jim E. Gilmore, a cosmetic surgeon in Dallas, reports the holidays have become one of his busiest seasons. For teenagers, many of whom get the procedure as a gift, rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping, is the typical choice. The cost: $ 5,000 or so. Gilmore says the holidays also seem popular for one of his fastest-growing clientele groups, men in the 50-something category. They favor tightening up droopy eyelids or bags under the eyes. The procedure costs roughly $4,000 and, thanks to new techniques, involves only a half an hour in the doctor's office. The patient is back to work after a couple of days, without bandages or scars. "People draw conclusions about how we work or don't work by how we look," observes Gilmore. "That may be unfortunate, but it is a fact of life." Over to you, Tin Pan Alley.
