After 3 1/2 months of marriage, Kim and Gary Topper of Sandy Springs, Ga., want to "quit renting and get ourselves some equity," Gary says. The couple, both 24, spend weekends poking through closets and checking out floor plans at model homes. With help from Kim's parents, "we've got at least enough for a 5% downpayment" on a $120,000 home, says Gary, a security systems salesman.
