Computer Buyers Can Make Standards Happen

Computers may not appear to have many moving parts, but they are easily the most complicated commercial machines ever made. And now that businesses are trying to connect all their computers together via networks, there are even more parts, working on more levels, that must be made to work harmoniously. Shopping for computers probably won't ever be as easy as selecting stereo components. But it could be made much easier with the adoption of more computer standards--public, detailed specifications for the interfaces, or connections, between computer systems and the many programs and hardware components within them.
