The War May Make Quantum LeapBy
Not too long ago, the big worry about Quantum Chemical, the nation's largest polyethylene producer, was how it would survive. Earnings had plunged from $4.45 a share in fiscal 1989 to 79~ in 1990. The company was $2.5 billion in debt, and its stock had dropped from 30 in early 1990 to 8 on Oct. 16. Since then, though, the stock has been moving up, rising from 12 to 17 in recent weeks.
