Democracy Is The Soil Where Capitalism Flourishes Best

Some advocates of free markets in the Soviet Union, Poland, and other Eastern European countries are calling for strong central authority under Gorbachev, Walesa, or others to drive their nations toward market economies. They fear that ethnic rivalries, endless debates, and special interests could prevent elected democratic governments from making the necessary changes. But market systems are far more likely to flourish in a democracy.
