Mutual funds that rode a wave of oil and gas were among top performers in the year’s second quarter.

When Bloomberg Rankings screened fund categories to find portfolios with at least $250 million in assets and total returns of at least 10 percent for the quarter ended June 30, 11 names popped up. Portfolios focused on master-limited partnerships (MLPs), which invest largely in pipelines, won big; the two in this ranking rose 19.9 percent and 18.2 percent, respectively.

Two funds featured in Bloomberg's first-quarter fund ranking made a repeat showing: Matthews India, which slipped a notch, and Fidelity Select Electronics Portfolio, which fell from No. 3 to No. 11. And three of the funds had the same stock as their top performer in the second quarter -- U.S. Silica Holdings, a producer of industrial minerals that sells to the oil and gas industry, among others.

Here are the top performers across categories, each with its second quarter and year-to-date returns, biggest holding (based on the latest data available) and best-performing holding for the second quarter.
