In Depth recently spoke with David to discuss his life as a photographer and the projects he\u2019s working on at this juncture.<\/em><\/p>\n

You just got done shooting at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. What\u2019s it like to work in the \u201cconnected city?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think that the \u201cconnected city is walking her first steps. We\u2019re already seeing some examples \u2013 \u201csmart\u201d bus stops, \u201csmart\u201d parking and the like \u2013 that are showing what the \u201cconnected city\u201d will be. As of yet, these apps are not widely implemented, but they will be.<\/p>\n

Your recent shot of a digital sensor sitting atop a municipal trash bin was particularly interesting. What was the process of getting that shot? What were you looking to capture?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I got a request from my editor to illustrate the \u201cconnected city\u201d feature. He shared with me some samples, and one of them was of those sensors on trash bins. There were only a few set up around the city, so I had to call City Hall to figure out where exactly they were.<\/p>\n

When I got there, I found out it was going to be a challenge to frame the sensors nicely. Each sensor is a small black piece sitting atop a trash bin \u2013 it wasn\u2019t exactly beautiful. I was looking not only to capture the sensor on the trash bin, but also to show the context \u2013 that they were on a Barcelona street.<\/p>\n

What else are you shooting these days? Are there other subjects at the MWC or around Barcelona that have caught your eye?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am mainly shooting the Mobile World Congress \u2013 some conferences, the general atmosphere and the new products at the main brands\u2019 stands.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your process of taking a photo like, generally? How do you approach each shot? What kind of equipment do you use?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I shoot with two cameras \u2013 one with a wide lens and another with a longer lens. When I get an assignment, I try to gather as much information as possible the day before so that I can cover the story properly. If necessary, I do some calls to arrange for access. I\u2019d love to take my time more, but when working for a news agency, you\u2019re always on deadline. You must be very efficient and try to do your job as quickly (and as well) as you can.<\/p>\n

How have you enjoyed being a photographer for Bloomberg? Do you enjoy any special perks or privileges? Is it easier to get access?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bloomberg is well known and has a good reputation in Spain. When I need to get access, it helps a lot that I\u2019m coming from Bloomberg.<\/p>\n
