Citi Captain Youcef\u00a0Mami said after\u00a0the race: \u201cThank you to everyone at the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay for a fantastic event.\u00a0 We put in a lot of training for the race but we weren\u2019t sure how we would match up to the other teams\u00a0as it\u2019s so competitive.\u00a0 We would like to thank all of the other teams for such a great race. We are thrilled to have come out on top and we will be back next year to defend our title!\u201d<\/p>\n

Fastest runner of the evening, Citi\u2019s Logan Yu, who completed his mile in 4:42<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Coming in close behind Citi in second place was Barclays, with Deutsche Bank in third place.\u00a0 Individually, the fastest runner of the night, with a time of 4:42, was Logan Yu from Citi,\u00a0 and capturing the award for \u2018Fastest Mixed Team\u2019 was The D.E. Shaw Group, beating 25 other teams to clinch the title in a time of 01:02:45.<\/p>\n

Peter Grauer, Chairman of Bloomberg LP, who ran tonight\u2019s race for his third year in a row,\u00a0 said: \u201cIt was great to see our clients, partners and friends join us in a race that embodies the importance of speed, teamwork, and giving back \u2013 three values that we celebrate at Bloomberg. On race night, there was also recognition for The Extra Mile: a community-led initiative by Bloomberg Square\u00a0Mile Relay that creates an impact way beyond the finish line and contributes to philanthropy in a bigger, better way throughout the year. In New York, The Extra Mile has teamed up with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to harness the power of sport to engage local kids from across the city. Ahead of race night, runners were invited to go The Extra Mile by joining \u201cCommunity Day\u201d, which was held at the finish line of the sixth annual 9\/11 Memorial & Museum 5K, where kids and their families got a chance to take part in sporting activities and learn new ways to stay active.<\/p>\n

Runners across 75 teams from New York\u2019s leading financial companies kick start the race against each other in Bloomberg\u2019s Square Mile Relay.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This summer, in conjunction with the June 27 opening of \u201cComeback Season: Sports After 9\/11,\u201d a special exhibition which explores how sports and athletes helped to unite the country, console a grieving nation and give us a reason to cheer again following the 2001 attacks, the 9\/11 Memorial & Museum, together with Bloomberg Square Mile Relay organizers, will also host a special event for young people from sport-for-social change programs across the city, as well as relay participants and Bloomberg employees.<\/p>\n

Nick Keller, CEO of event organizer, Square Mile Sport, said \u201cThe Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is an unparalleled sporting event that offers the city\u2019s leading institutions an opportunity to come together for a night of camaraderie, competition, teamwork, celebration and networking, in support of a special cause.\u00a0 It\u2019s fantastic to see the same level of enthusiasm, competitive spirit and teamwork from New York City\u2019s business community on display again for the third running of the race here and with an ever-increasing number of runners,\u00a0 the race continues to grow and we look forward to returning in 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay New York will return next year, but the baton now passes to Tokyo on May 17, and then to San Francisco on August 2. 11 cities across the world now host the global relay series, including Dubai, London, New York, Paris, S\u00e3o Paulo, Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney and Tokyo.
