The campaign, launched at the World Economic Forum\u2019s Annual Summit in Davos earlier this year, aims to get global business leaders to commit to real accountability and action on disability inclusion, by taking a simple first step and adding the topic of disability to their board agendas in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38618 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/data.bloomberglp.com\/company\/sites\/2\/2019\/03\/Valuable-Logo_black-background-2-290x157.png\" alt=\"The Valuable Five hundred\" width=\"290\" height=\"157\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg is dedicated to diversity and inclusion and focused on fostering a culture that values difference, promotes inclusion and encourages collaboration to drive business results. The company demonstrates its commitment to creating a supportive and comfortable environment for people with disabilities and their allies through a wide range of initiatives. Examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Partnering with organisations globally to recruit students and graduates with disabilities, such as EmployAbility (UK), Lime Connect (U.S.) and Talento Incluir (Brazil);<\/li>\n<li>Signing the \u201cTime to Change Employer Pledge\u201d to indicate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/company\/announcements\/bloomberg-signs-time-to-change-pledge-on-mental-health\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg\u2019s support in changing the way we think about mental health in the workplace<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Running apprenticeship programs in our Enterprise Data group for individuals with Autism in both the U.S. and UK, with the goal of developing the infrastructure to support a neurodiverse workforce;<\/li>\n<li>Forming a cross-functional Bloomberg team that has, since 2016, partnered with grad students at Carnegie Mellon University\u2019s Human-Computer Interaction Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/ux\/2018\/08\/28\/visually-impaired-working-finance-nearly-impossible-bloombergs-ux-designers-working-change\/\" rel=\"noopener\">to better understand and accommodate Bloomberg Terminal users with disabilities<\/a> in the long-term; and<\/li>\n<li>Enhancing the physical accessibility of our facilities worldwide for both employees and visitors with disabilities \u2013 changes that resulted from a collaboration between Bloomberg\u2019s Workplace Operations team and its Abilities Community (B-ABLE).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To further drive this issue on the global business leadership agenda, Peter T. Grauer, Bloomberg\u2019s Chairman, has pledged his support for the campaign, joining other high-profile executives including Paul Polman, Sir Richard Branson, Janet Riccio, and Mark Weinberger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Bloomberg, we are committed to implementing programs and accommodations for those with disabilities to succeed and thrive in our workplace,\u201d said Grauer. \u201cStrong, diverse teams help us innovate, execute and succeed in a highly competitive global environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38626 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/data.bloomberglp.com\/company\/sites\/2\/2019\/03\/PG-Bloomberg-Equality-Summit-3-592x395.jpg\" alt=\"Peter T Grauer\" width=\"592\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg will also jointly develop content with #valuable later this year to highlight disability inclusion by companies that are part of The Valuable 500.<\/p>\n<p>The Valuable 500 was launched by Caroline Casey, award-winning activist, social entrepreneur and the founder of Binc who is registered blind, at the WEF press conference \u201cThe Case for Disability Inclusion,\u201d following EY research which demonstrates that disability is only discussed by about 4% of global businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is fantastic to welcome Bloomberg on board as part of The Valuable 500. Bloomberg is a leading force in the news, finance and tech industry and will provide a voice that the one billion disabled people around the world so desperately need in order to end a la carte inclusion in the workplace. Over the next few months, she will share her story on social media and showcase the tools she uses to demonstrate to others in the corporate world that a more inclusive society and workplace can enable anyone \u2013 with or without disabilities \u2013 to reach their full potential.<\/p>\n<p>#valuable is a catalyst for an inclusion revolution that exists to position disability equally on the global business leadership agenda. It highlights the importance to business of the 1 in 7 people who live with some form of disability across the globe. This group, which makes up 15% of the world\u2019s population, is equal to the size of the U.S., Brazil, Indonesia and Pakistan combined \u2013 but is routinely ignored by business. Along with their friends, families, and communities, those with disabilities worldwide hold a disposable annual income of $8 trillion a year \u2013 making it a market business cannot afford to ignore.
