Arts and culture plays a unique role in society \u2013 it enriches our understanding of our lives, expands our thinking, and creatively tells our stories. Since our earliest days, Bloomberg has celebrated and supported creativity and innovation, valuing the powerful impact art can have on communities. Through the cultural partnerships with Bloomberg Philanthropies, our company plays a role in advancing creativity, innovation, public access and new technologies in the arts.<\/p>\n

In this Bloomberg 35 post, we feature some of our cultural partners and efforts that leverage art to develop and strengthen our communities.<\/p>\n

Kaldor Public Art Projects<\/strong>
\nKaldor Public Art Projects<\/a> has pioneered the presentation of international art projects in Australia, shaping local perceptions and appreciation of contemporary art. The organization works with a wide variety of partners to bring art to spaces outside galleries and museums and presents innovative, groundbreaking works.<\/p>\n

In 1969, Christo and Jeanne-Claude\u2019s Wrapped Coast \u2013 One Million Square Feet<\/em> at Sydney\u2019s Little Bay was the first large-scale public art project presented anywhere in the world, and the first time an international contemporary artist had created a major new work in Australia.<\/p>\n

Bloomberg and Kaldor Public Art Projects share a commitment to developing innovative public art projects that engage local and international communities. Bloomberg Philanthropies has been a proud supporter since 2013 and has helped make possible projects by renowned artists such as Marina Abramovi\u0107, Xavier Le Roy, Jonathan Jones and Anri Sala.<\/p>\n

Bloomberg\u2019s contributions over the years have helped make art at Kaldor accessible to the general public, in particular through the extensive public and education programs offered alongside each project.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWorks like \u2018barrangal dyara\u2019 (skin and bones<\/em>), a vast sculptural installation in the Royal Botanic Garden and Kaldor\u2019s first project by a local indigenous Australian, challenges us to think differently about important cultural issues. The Museum of Modern Art
\n<\/strong>The legendary Museum of Modern Art<\/a> (MoMA) is a place that fuels creativity, ignites minds, and inspires more than three million annual visitors in New York City. MoMA is dedicated to the conversation between the past and the present, the established and the experimental. The museum\u2019s mission is to help art lovers understand and enjoy the art of our time.<\/p>\n

\n

Bloomberg\u2019s support of MoMA in New York dates back to 1996. Through our Bloomberg Connects program, we support the MoMA Audio mobile experience. The recently streamlined platform provides new perspectives on both modern masterworks and contemporary art as curators, artists, and others talk about art in MoMA\u2019s unparalleled collection and special exhibitions. Audio for kids encourages younger audiences to look, listen, and learn, and detailed visual descriptions of key works enhance the experience for our blind and partially sighted visitors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Bloomberg also supports a number of MoMA PS1 programming, including the Young Architects Program and the MoMA PS1 Rockaway! Festival in Queens. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Zeitz MOCAA<\/strong>
\nThe Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa<\/a> (MOCAA) is the first major not-for-profit museum in Africa dedicated to contemporary art. The institution collects, preserves, researches, and exhibits cutting edge contemporary art from Africa and the Diaspora as well as hosting international exhibitions. Architect Thomas Heatherwick is behind the reimagining of the new museum. What was once a functioning grain silo has been transformed into what is now referred to as an \u2018industrial cathedral\u2019, with a grand atrium symbolically shaped like a gigantic piece of grain and lit from above through a glass roof.<\/p>\n

The museum opened to the public over Heritage Weekend in South Africa on September 22, 2017 to celebrate Africa and preserve its cultural legacy with an emphasis on access for all and representation of all. Bloomberg was the first company to sign on as a supporter of Zeitz MOCAA and through our support we\u2019re playing an important role in breathing new life and creativity into every museum visitor.<\/p>\n

The Bloomberg Cape Town office overlooks the Zeitz MOCAA building and our employees have been watching the building\u2019s development over the past seven years. The gallery perfectly captures the wonderful soulfulness of the African story through visual culture, changing the continent\u2019s narrative from being politically dominated to one of creativity and hope.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Pinacoteca<\/strong>
\nFounded in 1905, the Pinacoteca de S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a> is one of the oldest art museums in Brazil, specializing in Brazilian visual art from the nineteenth century to the present. Pina, as it\u2019s affectionately known, aims to improve the quality of the public\u2019s experience with the visual arts through the study, safeguarding, and communication of their collections, buildings, and memories, as well as fostering artistic production.<\/p>\n

Bloomberg added Pinacoteca de S\u00e3o Paulo to its arts and culture portfolio in 2015. Our employees and their families enjoy general admission benefits and tours.
